Who needs a titer?
Students in many healthcare programs and clinicians and reps often need to show proof their vaccines have effectively worked and they have immunity to the diseases they may be exposed to in student clinicals or work settings. We are a local business having been in Stafford since 2006 and have provided vaccines, TB testing, Drug testing and titer testing to thousands of individuals in that time. We are recognized by many vendor credentialing services like Castle Branch, Vendormate, Intellicentrics, symplr, Vendormate, Parallon, RepTrax and more.
There are many titers but, we perform Quantitative titers that display numerical values which is what the schools and employment places require. The results measure the presence and amount of antibodies in blood.
Most healthcare programs, colleges and universities require students to provide proof that they are up to date on their vaccinations before they can enroll. You may not be able to show proof due to unfortunate events like floods, fires, lost records, etc. So, then a titer is a low cost way and faster alternative to re-immunizing all over again and provides record of immunity.
If you never had the vaccine to prevent the disease nor had the disease itself you should not waste money on a titer for that disease but, vaccinate.
A numerically positive titer is what you want. If it is numerically equivocal or negative then you will need to vaccinate. If you had a vaccine or disease then, usually only a booster is needed. If you have never had the disease you may need to complete the series. Only if an individual titer is low will you need vaccines or boosters. This can happen over time but, is not the norm.

Most titer results come back within 3-4 business days and many as soon as 1 business day. are reviewed the same day by a clinician and your results interpreted and sent to you via a secured system in a PDF format. What is the process for getting a vaccine titer test?
Getting a titer test near you at a Quest Diagnostics lab is an easy process. After you place your order online, you will receive a confirmation in 24 business hrs to proceed to your selected lab location to get your blood drawn (please follow the instructions provided with your order). At the lab, the phlebotomist will draw a small amount of blood from your veins and the antibody levels in the sample will be measured using the lab’s equipment. Once the titer analysis is complete, a lab report will be generated and you will be notified when it is available. Orders placed on weekends and holidays will be processed the next business day.
How do I interpret my vaccine titer results?
On your vaccine titer lab report, you will see you results as a number next to the test performed. Along with your result, the lab will also provide the accepted reference ranges that can be used to interpret your titer levels as positive, negative or equivocal. In general, positive means that you are immune while negative or equivocal typically means that you need to be re-vaccinated.
Are your titers quantitative or qualitative?
Our most common vaccine titer tests are quantitative tests. Said another way, on your lab report, you will see a numerical result that represents the relevant antibody concentration in your blood. Quantitative titer results are typically the gold standard required when submitting a lab report to a school, employer or healthcare facility. Qualitative titer tests are another form of testing and will report your results as positive (reactive) or negative (non-reactive). Qualitative antibody testing has, for the most part, fallen out of favor as quantitative results have become more widely accepted.
Are there other ways to prove immunity?
In addition to a positive titer test, many places will also accept documentation with proof of recent vaccinations. The issue is often the old standards of documentation do not meet the requirements. For example, they may not have a stamp or a signature. Some schools require lot #s as well. Because the immunity conferred by vaccines does wane over time, some places may not accept older vaccination records and may require that you get a vaccine titer test to ensure you are still protected.
Do I need a lab order from my medical provider?
No. our clinic will provide you with a titer test lab order from one of our doctors. That lab order is included in the price of the test.
Do I have to pay more at the lab?
